Housing Choice Voucher Program

The GRHC is not currently accepting new applicants to our Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program.

The Housing Choice Voucher program is the primary Section 8 program administered by the Housing Commission. Housing Choice Vouchers provide a rental subsidy for low-income households renting privately owned property in Greater Grand Rapids.

Project-Based Program

The GRHC administers 425 units of Section 8 Project-Based housing. Under this program, a rental subsidy is assigned to specific units within a building, or to an entire building.

The Project-Based Program is available to individuals and families in which the head of household or the head of household’s spouse is disabled or meets age eligibility requirements. Seventy-five percent of available units are targeted to households that have an extremely low income.
