The GRHC will accept new applicants to our Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program December 9 through December 11.
The Housing Choice Voucher program is the primary Section 8 program administered by the Housing Commission. Housing Choice Vouchers provide a rental subsidy for low-income households renting privately owned property in Greater Grand Rapids.
Due to the high demand for this program, the waiting list for our Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is currently closed.

The GRHC administers 425 units of Section 8 Project-Based housing. Under this program, a rental subsidy is assigned to specific units within a building, or to an entire building.
The Project-Based Program is available to individuals and families in which the head of household or the head of household’s spouse is disabled or meets age eligibility requirements. Seventy-five percent of available units are targeted to households that have an extremely low income.

While we are accepting new applicants for project-based housing, applicants should be aware that there is currently a wait of about six years to rent through this high-demand program.
