Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Programs

Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides monthly rental subsidies to low-income working families, senior citizens and the disabled. The Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC) administers the program in the Greater Grand Rapids area, helping households bridge the gap between what they can afford to spend on housing and the fair market rent of an apartment, townhouse or single-family home.

REGARDING NEW SECTION 8 APPLICATIONS: Because demand for housing assistance greatly exceeds our supply of Section 8 Housing Choice vouchers, the GRHC is not currently accepting new applicants to our Section 8 program. Our Section 8 waiting list is closed indefinitely. Applicants currently on the waiting list will continue to be served in the order their application was received. It is each applicant's responsibility to notify the GRHC in writing of any change of address—applicants are informed by mail when their name reaches the top of the waiting list.
